Uncle Marty’s Shipping Office has been offering itemized storage services to Cornell and Ithaca College students for over 10 years! Uncle Marty’s is Ithaca’s highest rated shipping and itemized storage company on Google, with over 100, 5-star Google reviews. In 2025, Uncle Marty’s has adjusted and broadened our storage pricing and standards to better reflect the quality we provide and make it easier to understand.
Changing item weight classes: Weight classes have now been split into three sections. Regular items (<50lbs), Heavy items (50lbs-70lbs) and Giant items (70lbs-100lbs). We have lowered the Regular item weight class in order to help our employees more easily handle the majority of items and encourage safer packing standards for the majority of storage items. It is safer for those handling the storage items (both Uncle Marty’s employees and the owner of the items) if its weight is easy to manage. Additionally, this helps prevent items within the box from being damaged by the weight of the items packed on top of them. More of your belongings can be stored in two Regular items than one Heavy item, and it is safer for everyone and everything involved.
Adding “Giant item” classification: Giant items are now classified as “between 70 pounds to 100 pounds and/or requires two or more people to carry”. This item classification is to allow students to store tables, desks, mattresses, or other items that are beyond the capacity of most storage companies. If the item weight exceeds 100 lbs, please contact Uncle Marty’s Shipping Office directly for specific pricing and availability.
Adding “Bicycle” classification: Bicycles are difficult to store and require more space than typical storage items so most other itemized storage companies don’t offer the option to store a bicycle. The Uncle Marty’s team saw the need and decided to offer an option specifically for bicycles to make sure if someone wants to store one they can. This classification includes both regular and E-Bikes.
New “Climate control” option: While the Uncle Marty’s primary storage facility does not have significant changes in temperature, we understand some storage clients may want to make sure their important items avoid any temperature or humidity changes. We are pleased to continue offering a climate controlled storage option should any of our clients ask for it. This option is in addition to any other item classifications and additional fees.
Clarifying “Irregularly packed/Nonstackable item” fee: The Irregularly packed/Nonstackable fee is to allow items that cannot be easily packed to still be stored. If an item is just too large or difficult to package, Uncle Marty’s will still store it with this additional classification. Examples of items that will require this fee are standing fans, mini-fridges, floor lamps, rolled carpets, etc.. If items are stored in a normal container but don’t fit correctly so that the item is in an irregular shape and cannot be stacked, this fee will apply. Uncle Marty’s always encourages those storing their belongings to have items packed carefully in containers, but we will treat unpacked items with care. Uncle Marty’s will not accept unpacked electronics, artworks, or other inherently delicate items without exception.
Guaranteed storage stacking height limit: All itemized storage companies stack storage items on top of each other in order to maximize effective use of available space. In many situations companies will stack items as tall as possible and this results in the bottom items being crushed. This year, Uncle Marty’s is committing to never stacking storage items more than 6ft tall. Under most circumstances this means that no more than 3 boxes will be stacked on top of each other. A fully packed storage box will have no issue supporting the weight of 2 other regular items above it. The Uncle Marty’s team takes care to put heavy items on the bottom and light items on top to carefully protect items. We cannot guarantee what level on which an item will be stored, but we do our best to be careful as we stack items.
